These outcomes are reachable and sustainable. Participating individuals and team members will create value for themselves, their teams and their company. Each coaching initiative is linked with business strategy and targeted corporate objectives. With earnest commitment and discipline, beneficial outcomes become tangible and measurable.

Coaching Focuses on Goals

Each coaching plan is customized to meet the financial and performance needs of the corporation, the career and personal needs of the individual manager, and the team's need for cohesion and productivity. For example, some may work more on life balance or cultural adjustment while others may focus on international business practices and team cohesion. Some may commit more to management skill and knowledge development while others work hard to overcome personal obstacles to excelling. There are also achievers who aim toward emotional and interpersonal competencies or higher states of "flow" to transcend everyday conflict and chaos. The ultimate lasting goals are higher productivity and personal fulfillment.

Coaching Is a Disciplined Method

Because global leaders travel frequently and are dispersed worldwide, most coaching is provided by long distance telephone. All individuals and team leaders participating in a developmental coaching process must be motivated and committed to: personal growth, skill improvement, knowledge enhancement, broadened mind-set, and life satisfaction.

A general outline of a systematic coaching process involves the following 12 steps. High-achievers are accountable to:

  1. Assess abilities and potential    7. Take conscious actions
  2. Contemplate feedback    8. Seek and use support
  3. Clarify visions, values and priorities    9. Remain focused
  4. Set measurable goals   10. Overcome obstacles
  5. Construct workable plans   11. Measure progress
  6. Listen to guidance   12. Celebrate breakthrough results

Coaching Is a Discipline

Individual and team coaching are active disciplines. The coaching relationship is a disciplined partnership, a collaboration that is goal oriented, action oriented and future oriented. The method takes concentrated focus and the desire to achieve must be high. It is not just talk or promises. It is real work to become a better worker, a better performer, a better boss. All successful leaders must tap their hope, vision and drive to achieve more. Disciplined and conscientious coaching is the method to reach new performance levels.

Positive evolution is not easy. There is no magic or quick fix to acquire new behaviors, knowledge, attitudes, or perspective. Human development demands continuous effort. Individuals and teams can learn new behaviors and skills. They can also overcome persistent patterns of resistance to change in the form of interfering habits, judgments, expectations and fears. With disciplined commitment, the rewards are impressive for individuals and the organizations and teams in which they work.

Coaching Demands Support

Few people evolve in a vacuum. All persons, groups and organizations need support and guidance in order to achieve exceptional results. There is no other way to overcome barriers or to progress forward. In order to develop, each striver must take risks and "stretch" toward excellence. In the end, all high-achievers are accountable to themselves for their results. But to be successful, they need tangible support from family and friends as well as their boss, colleagues and direct reports. It is imperative that visible and consistent support comes from within the company.

Coaching Takes Time

All measurable and sustainable progress takes time. For lasting results, coaching clients and their organizations benefit the most if they work hard at significant goals for at least one year. That’s why RMC works directly with ambitious executives, managers and teams who have a record of high performance. They already understand how to sustain commitment over time.

To achieve meaningful results and impressive transformations, all coaching participants and their sponsoring organizations must initially expect to commit to the coaching process with RMC for at least 6 continuous months of engagement. Thereafter, coaching services are purchased in 6 month intervals. Anything less, in reality, does not result in high achievement.

Coaching Is Not Therapy

Do not confuse coaching with psychological treatment. Coaching is a guided partnership, not a psychotherapeutic or counseling relationship. Although there is some overlap, coaching is usually more systematic and focused on specific goals. The coach constantly encourages action and goal fulfillment. Feelings and confusions are discussed, but coaching clients are immediately re-directed toward their goals and encouraged to take real actions.

Although coaching is supportive and confidential, underlying problems are not intentionally uncovered. Psychological diagnosis, treatment planning and health insurance are not utilized. Coaching is not designed to "fix" a person. If a participant has more serious mental or emotional problems, then they will be referred to a qualified mental health professional. Coaching accelerates growth and competence in persons who are mentally and emotionally stable and capable.

Professional coaching accelerates the application of new ideas. It helps managers follow through with new commitments and goals as well as valuable recommendations learned in supervision and training workshops. When groups of managers and executives simultaneously commit to a coaching initiative, they foster the growth in one another and accelerate the momentum of organizational growth. It is an investment in the future – the future of your manager’s capability and your organization’s endurance.

The globe is a big playing field and international business is a tough game. Your players can use a supportive and disciplined coach in order to manage physical and mental stress, deal with confusing dilemmas and become exceptional leaders. If you want to keep your best and most promising managers, offer them an experience of real value and meaning, for their career and their personal lives.
